1992 Johnson 9.9 Tiller Arm Reconnect

Hi everyone, I just bought a 1992 Johnson 9.9 and the seller disconnected the tiller arm in order to ship it. I was trying to reconnect it and getting it to go back between those two bushings seems like it's gonna take some not so gentle whacks with a rubber mallet or something.

Is there a trick to this? I don't want to break anything or damage the bushings.

I've never messed with mine but I have the same model motor. I'll take a look at mine after work and see if mine has any free play or is snug fit.

I found the sweet spot and it just slid in.
