The past few days i've had my boat out its been running a little funny. Its got almost a "bog" to it when i'm running at WOT....I can only get about 5K rpm and seems like its all it can do to do that. Just wondering if any of you motor gurus might have a few ideas to check? Does this motor have an air filter? What about plugs possibly? Or maybe a "shock" treatment of Seafoam? Just looking for a few suggestions.

BTW, This is a 2003 motor.

I would guess that that is a carb problem. oil and gas gum up in the bowl blocking the high speed jets that feed gas. if you want to do it yourself take the carbs off. remove the bowl and use some carb cleaner to clean it out. I would recomend taking to your local boat shop and have new carb kits put in them. Wouldnt hurt to have the plugs changed and maintance lookover. hope it helps.

I second what dturner said. It sounds like your high speed jets may have some trash in them.

Do think I may be able to clear it out with running Seafoam through the gas? I've ran some through it before, but not really a whole lot...just kind of an upkeep thing. Seafoams site recommends 2oz per gallon of gas on 2-cycle engines. My boat has a 21 gallon tank....If I ran about 20-24ounces through a half a tank, do you think that would help? Take it out one day and just run it good all day?

i would pull your plugs and check the color. if they are black hit them with a wire brush. also inspect the ceramic for cracks ect.

make sure theres no trash tangled around your prop shaft. after that i'd pull the carb

I didn't get it out last night....came in and died on the couch.

I did get up a little later though and go out and re-install that valve, and replace the plugs. Looked like the plugs needed changing anyway...think it should run alot better tonight. :D

Awesome!! Wanna the plugs in mine next?? LOL!! Ive got the ones that go in her now. Just need to throw em in. I think that dang old gas that the Hilltop 66 is gumming my carbs and stuff up. Im gonna run some ole seafoam through her this weekend.
