Can you add a kill switch to a 1974 Johnson 9.9 hp? If so can anybody give me some details of how?

You should be able to use a N/O momentary switch and tie one end of that to the coil's input or the points and the other end to ground and create a functioning kill button.

I wired one by splicing into the wires for the kill switch on the motor, worked fine, but I went back to a tiller so I put it back to factory.

That is what I am talking about. The lanyard type on the new Mercury's are just momentary switches with a hood holding the lanyard. When you pull the lanyard it allows it to open.
