Hello,
I have been around boats all my life but a different variety. I acquired this boat few years ago after spotting it in an overgrown back yard in North Port Florida. In spite of the weeds and being full of leaves and stagnant water I was drawn to her sweet lines. Her transom had tumblehome which is something I have admired my whole life when I see it.

The owner was a young woman with a head of bouncy curls. The boat had been well used by her grandfather in Michigan and later SW Florida. She had no interest in the old boat and later we traded. I did a portrait of two children and she gave me the boat and title.

FINALLY I have begun working on her. My intentions are not a complete restore exactly. I want to gussy her up and make her pretty again. I have distinct plans that I will need to counsel on from time to time.

There are some peculiarities I don’t understand. Maybe you do? The front bench seat is so close to the wheel it would be impossible to sit there and run the boat! I am leaving the wheel and throttles for posterity and going with tiller.

I have already learned on here about treated wood and aluminum. Replacing the transom’s wood is top on my list. Also, I will be painting the strip above the rub rail an aqua color.

I have many questions and look forward to learning. I guess I better start a thread.

Her name will be “Curly”….
Thank you for this wonderful group. I will proudly display the sticker on Curly when I get there.

Best, melissa

Awesome boat!
Vintage Alumacraft is of the top tier. They are tanks.
The Model F was one of their best selling models, running from 1948 well into the '80s in the same configuration.
(For what it's worth, I can dial in your exact date of production with the serial found stamped on the spine of the transom knee.)
Also for what it's worth, this is the first I've seen of the optional forward deck, controls, and windshield on an F. Very cool.
Weird that it allows so little room.
There is a very knowledgeable Vintage Alumacraft group page on Facebook that might be a good place to glean answers about that.

Hello and thanks Mbullen. Did I mention she has aluminum oars! My favorite thing is her lovey transom shape….her Tumblehome.

I took out the throttle cables but will leave the wheel and evinrude throttle case for posterity… she IMG_5807.jpegIMG_5794.jpegIS a tank and has very little leaking. I am curious about the 3 sets of oar locks.

I did not know about the Aluma Craft page on Facebook and will check that out.

I am attaching the serial. Thank you.

Do you have an AlumaCraft?
