Hello,
I have been around boats all my life but a different variety. I acquired this boat few years ago after spotting it in an overgrown back yard in North Port Florida. In spite of the weeds and being full of leaves and stagnant water I was drawn to her sweet lines. Her transom had tumblehome which is something I have admired my whole life when I see it.
The owner was a young woman with a head of bouncy curls. The boat had been well used by her grandfather in Michigan and later SW Florida. She had no interest in the old boat and later we traded. I did a portrait of two children and she gave me the boat and title.
FINALLY I have begun working on her. My intentions are not a complete restore exactly. I want to gussy her up and make her pretty again. I have distinct plans that I will need to counsel on from time to time.
There are some peculiarities I don’t understand. Maybe you do? The front bench seat is so close to the wheel it would be impossible to sit there and run the boat! I am leaving the wheel and throttles for posterity and going with tiller.
I have already learned on here about treated wood and aluminum. Replacing the transom’s wood is top on my list. Also, I will be painting the strip above the rub rail an aqua color.
I have many questions and look forward to learning. I guess I better start a thread.
Her name will be “Curly”….
Thank you for this wonderful group. I will proudly display the sticker on Curly when I get there.
Best, melissa
