I bought a 14' Gregor aluminum boat that has carpet installed over the seat tops. I need to replace the tops. Don't know how they are attached to the bench. So do i just try tp peel back the carpet and look for screws or rivits? I feel stupid asking this but I have no clue. They have to be attached thru the seat top but I don't know what to do to find out where.

I would expect to find large diameter pop rivets attaching the bench tops. Both my '89
Grumman and my '94 Duranautic were attached that way. Both had rotted wood fairly early on. I replaced the wood with Azec PVC sheeting using the same type of rivets I got online.

My 1971 Starcraft uses SS screws with nyock nuts underneath but the wood IS the bench in that boat. Even if it uses rivets, you cans till use screws but if buried under new carpet, rivets are likely the best choice.
