Hello everybody,
After looking around and lurking for a spell, I figured I would register. This looks like a great site and I've already gotten good info from some threads here.
My project consists of a '76 Lowe Jumbo Jon w/40 hp mercury. The motor seems to be in good shape, that is it starts and revs and switches from N to F to R. Other than that, I know not much about motors. The trailer, although older, is also in good shape with new tires and newer looking wheels. That being said, I bought the motor and trailer and got the boat for free. The hull is twisted and full of holes on the sides. The total damage was not apparent when I looked at the boat to buy. One of the previous owners had taken out the middle bench seat, and it appears that support was missed by the rest of the hull.
All in all, nothing some cutting and welding won't be able to fix.
I do have a console question. The boat came with a homemade side console that is no longer with us. I'm thinking of building and installing a center console. I have the control unit and steering cable. The electric, steering, and control cables are long enough to put in a center console. What i need to know is, how much bend can the steering cable take?

Pictures coming when I figure it out

I didn't get good pics of the ribs, but the six middle ribs on the starboard side were all cracked at some point and welded. The angle is off on each one (some more than others).
The plan is to
1) cut the welds out of the gunwale
2) cut and clean out the welds in the ribs
3) straighten out boat best we can and weld back together

The radio was mounted next to the console. I saved all three speakers and the radio. Radio works great, so, it is going back in. I just need to figure a good way to keep the speakers mostly dry.
