The instructions on my carpet glue states not to be used on painted, poly treated, urethane treated etc. What are your thoughts?

It might explode so I wouldn't do it.

Seriously - how can that be answered without knowing the product and substrate?

The product is Menard's marine carpet glue and the substrate is marine plywood

Does anyone have any ideas by what I mean. Most people on here state that they spared both sides of the plywood they were using. I'm confused because the glue from Menard's says to apply it to unfinished wood.
