Got to thinking about how the main water I fish here requires decals on your rig to get on the water. You have to purchase two decals (one for each side of boat), and the cost is $2.42, which no one knows how they came up with that particular price, but it's real reasonable, and doesn't require any renewal..............so far. You can place them anywhere along the length of the boat, as long as they are above the waterline  . Here's our local decal which is 3" in diameter:

Anyone else out there required to have special decals besides the regular registration sticker?

I haven't talked to him in a while. I need to call and check on him. It's not like him to be so quiet.

$2.42? Only in Kentucky. Fox Waterway Agency boating permit is $60.00/yr for my sized boat. Plus there are only 2 free public launches up here and neither is close to where I fish. 90% of the private places charge $15.00 to launch. If I go to lake Michigan it is $15.00 per launch or $125.00/yr. I get the yearly one. There is a free launch site but it is 15 miles north of where I center my fishing. 30 mile round trip, too far when waves are 2-4 footers and speeds are reduced to 10-15 MPH. Plus the gas.

Dang, that sure makes for expensive fishing up your way! The reasoning for the decal (as the lady behind the desk told me) was to control and keep track of who is on the water. Pee Wee is our local reservoir and electric-only. Since 9/11 you can't fish within 100 feet of the dam (probably where all the bigguns hide), and they've closed the back ramp since that date also. They watch from the office window with binocs and check for the yellow decal. When I registered I took all of my boat paperwork with me, and found out it wasn't needed  . All I had to do was show my driver's license, put my address on the form, sign it, and give them the $2.42. They have a cool airboat there, so it wouldn't be hard (or take long) for them to chase someone down on the 400+ acre lake.

ND and MN as long as your boat is registered there is no charge to get on the lakes. I guess when people have 10,000 lakes to choose from it wouldn't make much sense to charge somebody to get on. Most of the ramps are public access and have ample parking. Some of the people who live on the lake put in private ramps, but that is just for their own conveniance.

I pay $12 for a two year boat registration and that is all it costs me to get on any lake. After reading some of the charges you guys have to pay I sure love where I live.

My County lakes require a $10.00 permit. Someone I fish with has yet to get one - but he is such a nice guy they let him slide every time

If you are referring to me, well, deal with it :)
I don't have time to use the boat anyway!

I pay $75 a year to put in on city lake near me. Most city lakes around here have some kind of charge. Other lakes--Rend Lake, Carlye, Horseshoe Lake don't charge to put in.

In florida you have to register the boat and get a sticker once a year.About 30 bucks I think it was. If you are 12 ft or less and have no motor you dont have to register it.That means not even a trolling motor. Also if you are on a private lake it doesn't have to be registered.

In Illinois boats have to be registered. Motor or no motor, yacht or jon boat, canoe or inflatable. I think it only costs $13 for canoe, $22 for my jon, and on up according to size. They last for three years. If you build your own boat, you have to have it inspected, so they know it is home made. Most private lakes with stickers require a registration number from the state. However, in Illinois motors do not have to be titled. So a hot motor can disappear and be re-sold with no problem.

We have state wide registration for boat and motor. Motor is a one time fee and boat is renewed every 3 yrs. Most all lake around here dont require an extra sticker/fee. Two that I know of have useage fee/stickers every year, they also have motor limitations and one has operating hours.
