Remove the aluminum on the bow of a boat like this? I would like to put a deck in it but the closed bow portion would really be in the way? Any thoughts?

You probably can - but it will be a real PITA to redo all the supports and remove all the controls. Plus, this boat is a bow rider so you may have some issues with weight distribution. You are much better off getting a different boat rather then doing super extensive re-building.

For $1,000 you can get a nice jon or semi-v with an open deck - ready for whatever mods you want to do

I would pass on that as well. It would be a nice project to restore and cruise around in, but wouldn't be good to fish from if you want a deck.

If you added the structure in another way, yes you could but PLEASE DON'T. As much as I like to see a well thought out, and very ingenuitive mod, I HATE to see people destroy these classics. In my opinion (that is shared by many others) taking the bow out of one of those is destroying it - may as well take the thing to the scrapyard, put it in the shredder, and use the money to buy a vee hull utility boat. There are always more jons around, and they are being made everyday, so if a restore goes bad, or if a future buyer doesn't like what you did to yours, they can find another one. But, there are no more classics like that, and the ones that are in existence are a dying breed.

That one is actually in GREAT condition. I would love to get my hands on a diamond in the rough like that.

I'm in agreement.
I don't think it's what your looking for.
There should be boats in that price range that would be easier to mod and more to your liking.

Ok I should have sent the correct link lets do this again. Heres a small pic. This one is $400 w/ trailer

I looked at it tonight picking it up tomorrow sorry about the first link thats not the one I'm gettting but is the same boat. The boat in the pic has no controls or windshield. I thought about removing the bow by drilling out the rivets and throw the bow piece in the attic just in case I or someone else would want it original. It looks as if you could remove it and make a piece half as wide to mount a TM to and keep structural integrity then make a small deck to fish off of. I do not intend to trash this at all.

Why wouldn't you guys think this couldn't be fished out of? Take off the bow peice and you have a 15' v bottom. I'm not trying to argue I just don't understand the reasoning.

Yeah nostalgia. Its like taking an old classic or antique car and throwing a fully blown motor, digital dash, 3000 watt stereo, 20 inch rims and a killer flip flop paint job.

I love it...go for it!

See what I mean? :LOL2:

Whats the size of the boat?
Some of those older boats were alittle narrow and standing in a narrow V can take some getting used to,especially if your deck is installed real high.

Hey Zum it measures approx. 15'6''. The beam measures approx. 66''. The height in the center from top to bottom is 31''. I really don't forsee any stability type issues. My wife said I brought home the Ark!
