I'm using exterior plywood, not PT. do i still need to seal the wood.

You'll probably get a few more years out of it. Ask yourself how long you plan on keeping the boat.

Just my opinion, but aluminum is lighter and it will never rot out or hold moisture. I know its more expensive but depending on what this boat is going to be for and how long your going to keep it, it could be a better option.

I use my boat for duck hunting. All I did was put several coats of 15 year exterior paint on exterior plywood. That was 3 years ago and they look ok.
