Just my opinion, but aluminum is lighter and it will never rot out or hold moisture. I know its more expensive but depending on what this boat is going to be for and how long your going to keep it, it could be a better option.
 
I use my boat for duck hunting. All I did was put several coats of 15 year exterior paint on exterior plywood. That was 3 years ago and they look ok.
