Currently replacing the transom on a 1980 Eldocraft 16 ft aluminum boat. Looking for advice on the best way to remove and install the wood. The lip on top would have to be bent backwards to pull it up but to remove it I would need to remove a bracket on the bottom that is the length of the transom and also bend or remove the 4 supports tied to the bottom of the boat. What’s the proper removal method here?

Is the top cap one piece with the transom?

If not drill out all of the rivets holding the top cap on, unbolt the brackets from the corners, remove the bolts through the transom that hold the stern brackets and the old wood should lift right out.

If the transom cap is one with the transom were going to need more pics.

Agreed, more & better pictures needed.

But unbolt the knees from the wood, that should free the bottom of the wood.

Regardless of how fastened; bolted, riveted or welded ... you need to remove the corner braces & top cap. Both can be reinstalled or replaced fairly easily.

I have a 71 Eldocraft 14ft. I was able to unbolt the transom wood and knees from the transom, and then slide the wood down and forward enough to clear the top cap when removing it.
