I'm thinking of getting a new 50 hp E-Tech, the only one they have on sale is the white salt water one, is there a difference between the fresh and salt? I'm not sure I'm sure I'm sold on a white motor.

Supposedly, the saltwater versions have more stainless steel, salt-proofing and extra sacrificial anodes.
It would be great for freshwater, if its in your price range, go for it.
