Ok so I have been reading this forum for weeks now and its time I introduce myself and my Project. I am Jeromy and Completly new to boating let alone moding one. A few weeks back i Picked up a 16 ft V with trailer and a 6 horse for $475.00 All in BAD shape. I did not take pictures of everything on day one but will post today from where i am at now. So far i have cleaned all the rust and paint off the trailer, repainted, repaced bumpers, replaced all bolts, replaced safty chain, new jack, new wench It looks awesome. Now for the hard part, I have started cleaning up the boat and found a few leaks. I have JBwelded outside of the ones i can and am now working on the inside. This boat has had major damage in the front and has been patched (did not see this when bought due to 4 layers of bad paint).

My goal is to remove middle and front seats, add floor, pedistal seats, front storage on the bow and a deck on bow for trolling motor. I am also looking at rebuilding a box inplace of center bench seat for battery storage. I need to run all wiring for lights and troller. To be honest i am WAY over my head but this should be fun. Below is my hopful steps to take....

1. Trailer (Done)
2. Remove Front 2 bench
3. Stop leakes and prevent (This is hopfully accomplished with JBweld and sealed with truck bed liner)
4. build center battery storage
5. Bow trolling motor mount/storage
6. run wires
7. floor (NO IDEA HOW TO ACCOMPLISH THIS)
8. mount lighting and assesories
9. mount seating

Again i will post pictures of the boat tonight i will work on posting finished Trailer here in a bit.... I will also post to of my design ideas to see what everyone thinks

Welcome and I'll be looking forward to seeing your mod as it progresses. BTW, the trailer came out great, I'm starting on refurbishing mine as well. Wanted to get it in good shape with new bunks, paint and lights before continuing with a new paint job on my project boat. Have fun and good luck!

I started sanding the inside last night and removing all of the silicon from the rivits. Anyone have any sugestions on easy paint removal? keep in mind it does have some type of patch in the front that looks like fiberglass... Also My plan is to JBweld all rivets inside and out then on the inside use truck bed liner, what are the thoughts on this?

Can everyone post some pics of how they framed there floor, i am not good at metal so wood is my go to....... Just not sure how or where to start. Sorry i will have pics of boat tonight

This is what I have to work with ... its a 16 foot Lone star. and a 6hp seahorse motor (no other information on motor as there is nothing else on it) Pics of motor to come but it runs and pretty good its going to the shop this winter

First piece of advice, add about two months to your build! Do it right and take your time. Don't try to nats ass every sheet of wood or aluminum. Add about 1500 dollars to your estimate for rebuild to do it right and adjust for in build design changes.

This forum is hands down the best boat forum.... period! Great doods on here take advantage of the experience on here! Use the search key. I think I spent about 1 full month searching all of the past posts, specifically looking for 16 foot v-hull builds. You will find that they are hard to find good threads on modding a v-hull, Lots of posts, just not all quality how-to posts.

Take a look at my build, I am 3 months into mine and have about 1 month to go... of course I am a anal retentive nut job so everything has what I call the goop process (two coats of sanding sealer on MDO and one coat of two part epoxy). Everything is stainless steal and if a screw goes into wood it has bondo or epoxy or a 5200 type of sealant on it. I figured if I am going to build it, it better Damn well last!

Good luck brother- you got this!

Thanks hercdrvrwo, I am trying to build this bad boy on a pretty tight budget. I picked up the exterior paint last night. 6 cans of Rustoleum paint, 4 cans of primer, 4 cans of protective gloss coating all from Rustoleum (spray). Not near ready to paint but got it on sale at about 3$ a can :).
Overall idea for this boat is build it nice, use if for 2-4 years and buy a bigger boat. I have 2 kids and in about 4 years my little man will be big enough to join me on the water so at that point i will need an upgrade :)

I am on the look out for aluminum now but not sure what excatly i should look for, i am a big guy at 6ft 300lbs so i need/want something strong enough for me,gear and kids any idea's?

Well, it looks like the little fairy princess is willing to lend a helping hand.
Be sure to reward her with a little tea time. Have fun with your project. :D

My advise is take back the spray cans and find Rustoleum top side paint. Menards has it, Lowes can order it if not in store. Better yet get Interlux top side but about 3 times cost of Rustoleum. Spray paint on boat I'm not a fan of.

Thanks for the advice on paint, I did look at the other 2 options and I think i am going to the Top side option. After my 10th day sanding i am giving up and getting paint remover, just really worried about the patch job in the front of the boat so i will avoid that at any cost. Not sure the the bottom layer of paint is or when they painted it but 2 thumbs up to the painter and paint that stuff is not coming off lol. I will strip the paint over they next few days and post my progress.....

That was the deal she helps me i had to read her the carebears book lol
