Gas tank box

Want to build a gas tank box for my 6 gal. portable gas tank. I have a 14 foot meyer and want to put it front of the middle seat. Do you have any suggestions?

Keep the box well vented and let the tank sit on a couple spacers so stuff can drain to the back of the hull.

Perhaps you can just build an easily removable collar for the tank and clamp it to the hull so the tank isn't fully enclosed? Maybe incorporate expanded metal for the top of the collar so you can step on it?
