And... now it needs a new axel. I made the mistake of leaving the old grease on the spindles to protect them from the elements. When I cleaned them last night to put the new hubs on, both of them are worn out and I found significant gouging on one... At this point, I probably could have bought a decent used trailer for what I'm going to have into it.IMG_9324.jpeg

Yes, that happens just when you think you're out of the woods. However, you now have a great used trailer that you know all about. It won't be giving you any trouble I'll bet.
The real kicker is that it doesn't currently have a full axel. the spindles are welded into the C-channel cross member instead. Getting them out is going to be... interesting. If I use a torch, I'm going to wind up blowing out part of the C-channel but I'm not sure I want to using a cutting wheel either. The last thing I need is for that disk to come apart with me under it.

I need a better pic to see what needs to be done. Have you thought about installing a regular trailer axle or is that way too much money?

My memory sucks... the axle is a piece of upside down c-channel approx. 2"x3" with the spindles welded inside the channel. I don't have great photos. However, looking at the photos I do have, it doesn't appear to be tied to directly to the trailer frame (like I thought it was). If I can find an axle that fits, it shouldn't be too hard to swap them out.

I'm going to replace the axle either way. A new 2000lb axel runs about $200, give or take $50. Not cheap for me, but not unaffordable either.
