I recall seeing a post or 2 about mirrors & such. I ran across this, thought it was pretty neat, though not cheap.

After about a dozen trial and error times you start to be able to get it without anything. I can get the ball within a 6 inch radius of the hitch consistently. And, that is in a 3/4 ton Suburban, so visibility is limited. A bit of practice works wonders.

Oh I don't have any problems hooking-up, this was just in response to some of the recent posts I'd seen. I might have to get out of the truck once, but I can do that several times for $300

I don't have any trouble but you ought to see my license plate!!!!
I even had someone ask me the other day why i don't like my plates? It took me a minute to figure out what they meant but then i remembered how beat up they were. :p
I just back up till I here the trailer smash into the plate then pull up about 3or4 inches and it's all good!!!

Here's a one that looks interesting: HitchingGuides.com
I just back up and hook, the boat is light enough to move the tongue a bit. The camper has to be right on, I found that if you lower the tongue so it will hit the ball, it wont hit anything else except ball. If done right, you can just slip the ball under the tongue and right where you need to be.

I've seen another one that is "V" shaped & actually guides the trailer tongue to center itself over the hitch ball. I think it's removable once your hooked-up, can't recall where I saw it though.

I can usually get my truck centered...I just have trouble judging distance. So what I do is once I unhook it from the last time fishing, I lower the tongue down just a tad, so when I go to back up to it next time, the ball and very front lip of the tongue will hit instead my rear bumper or liscense plate. I just get the truck straight with the boat, and I usually have no problem getting it aligned right.
