hello everyone. this is my first time to post a question. i've come up with a 14' 1955 bluestar aluminum v-bottom, i have a 7.5 hp chrysler sea king and a 25 hp mercury and was wondering if the 25 would be to big? that is what the boat had on it when i got it. i did take it for a test run and it was pretty scary to say the least, flopping so bad i thought the boat was going to break in half!!!! i want to put a fishing deck in like the ones you guys have and thought the extra weight might help. any info would be great :)

Welcome to the site.
A picture would really help us.
Some of those older 14 footers could handle a 25hp fine.
It must not have a complaince label?
The extra weight should help it from slapping but you should make sure the transom can handle the power first.

Depends on the width & weight of the 14. Some can handle it, some cant.

If it was porpoising that bad, you may not have it trimmed correctly. Try raising or lowering the pin & adjust the trim angle of the motor.

thanks for the welcome. no compliance label, will get a picture asap, pretty sturdy built. 48" transom and 55" at the widest. will try the adjusting of the trim too.

If it is only 55" at the widest point I think the 25 might be a little too much for it. I have a Lowe 1467 Sea Nymph V and it is rated for 25 HP max at a full foot wider.

48" transom is on the narrower side, I would think that it is probably rated for a 15.
IMO, a 25 would be too much. See if you can find a late 80s/90s johnson 2 stroke 15.

Ahh heck.Put the biggest thing on there that won't sink her. Here's another members boat.

thanks for all the speedy replies, very informitive :) i think i will do a little fixin' on this boat and try to sell it, put the money toward a "little bigger" boat. I have a lotta lake to cover here and would like to keep the 25. plus, this boat seems a little shallow anyhow. will ponder on it a little more :?
