I think I made a mistake ordering my new prop.

I decided to give a 4 blade propeller a try on my john, since it is regularly carrying a heavy load (3 guys + fishing gear or lots of decoys).Going on what I have now found was bad advice from our local boat sales man I ordered a 14 pitch 4 blade for my 25 mercury. The salesman told me to go up 1 size (I had a 3 blade 10x13 that was working perfectly until I used it to locate a rock bar in the river) so I went to a 14. I have since read that you DROP an inch when you go to a 4 blade. Anyone out there running a 15 pitch prop on a 25? I know that nothing will actually known until it is on the boat and run, but if anyone is running one I would appreciate knowing how you are liking it.

Not too many 25's out there that can turn a 14" much less a 4 blade 14". I ran a 4 blade 11" for a while. Loved it. On plane immediately. Held planing speed at much lower RPM and used less fuel. You're correct-you should drop an inch of pitch when going to 4 blades. IOW, if you ran a 13" 3 blade, a 12" 4 blade would be real close to the RPM of the 13" 3 blade.

The only guys I know that can actually turn a 13" (or 14" for that matter) are the hopped up 'zukes, Yammies, and Mega's.
