Fished the mighty Conowingo in Lancaster (actually I fished in Millersville, but same area) yesterday after I finished some work I had in that area. Things started off slow with one nice smallie jumping completely over my Rico popper without touching it.
I switched over to my plastics rod and used some needle worms in molting crayfish blue, It is a color I poured after observing the color of many of the molt stage crayfish in my local water. This color has worked very well for me all spring.
Well only a few light taps on the crayfish blue color and, after some observation of the Conowingo crayfish, I switched over to some browns and dark greens. That was the trick, landed a few 13-14" range smallie s and then picked up this piggie on a 4" senko in brown.
OH YEAH, 1st fish on my new Team Daiwa Terria as well!
How you like that Mr. Jacob B.?
I switched over to crank baits and landed 6-7 walleye, nothing that big but plenty of action
Caught a few more smallies and then Jimmy (aka Jimmy:Lee) calls and send me some bad fishing JU JU. We were supposed to meet around 4:30 and he called to let me know he was on his way. I told him how I had constant action all afternoon, at that point I had the 6 Walleye and at least 10 smallies. Well as soon as he calls the fish shut off - I mean dead.
Jimmy shows up on time and ready to fish. I yell at him for killing the bite and he tries for about 30 minutes with nothing. We move around to look for fish and I pick up a few smaller SMB. Since moving did not help we head back to the spot where I was catching before Jimmy called. He switches baits a few times and then the smallies turn on. Jimmy caught 5 or 6 in a brief 15 minute period - with a few larger specimens mixed in
We keep moving around for the rest of evening and each pick a few more fish up. It weird, you think you figured the fish out and they would shut back down again
Good to see you again and fish with Jimmy.
