loud motor

hello everyone i have a 4.5 1980 jonhson it is loud is there any way to make it quiter

old motors are just loud..

you can apply some sound deadener to the cowl and it mite help out alittle, but the sheets arnt cheap. you want the stuff people use for there boom boom speakers in their cars. looks like aluminum foil w/ adhesive on one side

Make sure you don't have a bad power head gasket.That would make it loud

The main issue with older motors are the lack of an air box or air filter and an open exhaust.There is really nothing that can be done easily to remedy that.Power head to column gasket may have a leak,but that usually causes running issues if it's bad.
