On day #2 of 2009 I've FINALLY gotten out onto the ice for the first trip of the year.
Got this 13" Brookie and one other 6" Brookie.

It's that cold up here. Fish are flash freezing in below zero temps. I didn't even lift the little 6 incher I caught out of the hole, just cut the line.

And no water, caught both fish in less than two feet of water on shore :wink: great way to target Brookies!
 
Kinda ironic...warm water species.
Have alot of chain pickeral there?
They were chain pickeral,weren't they?
 
Yes, they are Chain Pickerel. They are pretty much everywhere.

We now have Pike in Maine, but I haven't fished any waters that hold them yet.
 
That would be something cool to do one day, fish through the ice when I need 4 layers to walk outside when it's 45 degrees :lol:
