Are these motors able to be worked into a 15hp?? Found a really good deal on one, and was just wondering. I'm really wanting to max out my boat at 15HP, so i was just wondering what they are capable of. I think its a late 60's model. Thanks!

I don't believe they had 15hp back than.Merc went from a 10hp to a 20hp with no 15hp.Really they where rated at 9.8hp for those 10hp limit lakes.
One of the motors that I'm familiar with is the Johnson-Evinrude which can be changed to a 15hp with the change of the carb on the earlier ones(74-81) & reed plate & exhaust on the later ones(81-early 90's)
Probably not what you wanted to hear but this is all that I know.

Thats a early 70s to mid 70s motor and there was no carb upgrade for a 15 like Johnnie rudes could do.

If its elec start there are nolonger starters for them and get a carb kit or two to help as they become depleted.

Thank you very much for the information! I'll get a couple of those carb kits, and whatever else i think it may need. What were the common problems with them? Do the impellers last very long? It just had one put it in last year. Are those pretty common/easy to find? I'm assuming i should be able to pick up everything i need at a local NAPA, is that correct? Thanks again for all the help!

Look at old merc.com for hard tofind parts .I had the same motor at one time runs great.
