This is my 2012 Alumacraft 1436 riveted flat-bottom jon. Picked it up from a guy on craigslist for $500. Came with an old Minn Kota 30lb trolling motor, no battery. He also threw in some oars, the boat actually has oar locks as well. I'm going to pick up the battery today, probably a ever start from Walmart. I want swivel seats, few storage compartments, and maybe a big ice chest in the middle. I don't want to add any wood if I don't have to because I transport the boat in my truck and don't want it to be too heavy for me and another guy to handle. I am also not so sure about cutting the existing bench seats for storage because I just don't know the right way to do it. It would be pretty cool though to have a storage place to put tackle and what not in the seat though. Any suggestions on what battery I should get, and how to go about putting a storage space in the seat?

A 27 class will probably be your best bang for your buck. Make absolutely sure it says deep cycle on the battery. Some Wal-marts sell marine batteries and they are not deep cycle.

A 27 will run for 30 pound motor for quite a few hours if you avoid the highest setting. There was a study I read that anything over 4 speed was not worth the battery drain.
