Need to find out the year of a motor....

All i have a seriel number and that number doesnt match any on ishopmarine. was wondering where else to look . I dont have a model number just a seriel number-A131858. thanks for any help

We need a little more info like brand of motor.On some there's a plug on the motor that has numbers for identification.

its a merc. 50hp. im thinking 85 or 86

bass pro was able to get me the year -85- but i still cant get a model number, id like to get a manual but with out a model number im kinda screwed, right?

On the older Mercs there is a small freeze plug on the right hand side of the block that has the numbers stamped on it.
