Hey guys, new to the forum and to aluminum boats. I just got a 1959 Memp AP1455. I don't know what the heck a Memp is, maybe short for Memphis? Any way, I am wanting to bring her back and make her better than ever, but before I start a project thread I had a question or two.
1 - I see guys use untreated wood in these boats, why?
2 - What's the easiest way  to remove all the house paint that was brushed on to the bare aluminum and the carpet adhesive inside?
3 - Is their a thread for new guy basics that answer these questions and more?

Thanks

Welcome!!!!!

Your questions are good ones, and have been discussed a lot on here. Search through the old build threads and you'll find tons of info.

But to get you started,

1. Treated wood has chemicals/metals that react with aluminum and cause corrosion.
2. There is no easy way to remove old paint. Its all about elbow grease, baby! You can try different types of paint strippers, scrapers, heat guns, power washers, grinders, wire wheels, brushes etc etc etc but in the end it just takes time and persistence.

got any pics?? We love pictures!!

I'm not sure if you can upload a pic, but I host my pics through Picasa Web Albums. Maybe your work doesn't block that site.

Time is money, friend.
