Hi all,

I moved to Tennessee 1.5 years ago from Germany, the area im from does not have any lakes, to boating and fishing was not possible..
when I moved here I knew we needed a boat... but obviously after you immigrate to a country with just a few suitcases there is a lot you need

so on a tiny budget I bought a 14 foot jon boat with a 6hp engine, with the trailer and all I paid 300$ and man we love fishing and boating, we live 5 min from lake Chickamauga, and we go multiple times per week out on the lake

here some pictures:

now a year later it is time to upgrade the boat... I still don't have a big budget ( just bought a car) and I cant finance a boat ( still building a credit history) but a coworker has a boat I cant use anymore and wanted to sell it and gives me nice payment options =D>

the reason for the upgrade is, we love camping too, and we would love to do some longer boat trips but our boat is to small, during our normal trips the boat is already loaded and if I would add camping gear.... I would sink  then there is the fact that top speed is 11mph... that kind off limits the range...

anyway, next week Friday I can pick up the new boat:
2001 17 foot Pro Weld Nova with a 50hp motor and a trolling motor, I don't have all the details.. I only saw the boat once a year ago and I remember that I liked it  I know the guy and he takes very good care of his stuff, so im not worried, including to that, he is a good friend and helped me to move to America, so hes not gonna screw me

the wife and the kids and myself we cant wait to get the boat.. we are already planning trips :)

I was gonna say, No way you bought a boat without our advice but $300 for a boat, motor and trailer, you seem to know better than us what you are doing. Now you will get a bigger boat (2footitus disease got ya already) and it sounds good. A very good idea to live within your means and avoid credit costs. The pictures are great and the family looks very happy, have fun.
Tim

Thank you!

when I bought the boat I didn't know about this forum, I should have googled, because... when I bought the boat I almost sunk it on the first trip.... I did not know that boats had a plug... and mine was missing

I found the forum when I googled on how to strip the paint off, it was and still isn't nice, but I stripped all the paint of on the outside and looks a lot better than how I bought it.. the inside is only half way done... fishing time came and I stopped working on the boat

It looks like you and your family are really enjoying what there is to offer over here.
Sometimes I take my boating and fishing privileges for granted, thanks for the pictures.(smartens me up for a day or two)

That boat is going to be a nice upgrade when you get it,keep us posted.

thank you all!

2 hours till I get off of work and can pick up the boat, i will try it out on the lake tonight when im back!! =D>

Mike, yes I love it here, Chickamauga is sooo huge I needed the extra range from the new boat, I can wait to do some all nighters.. ill be learning how to jugfish soon and it will be nice to watch my jugs :)

When you go to pick it up, ask your buddy to water test it with you. Life with boats are much simpler when you have someone who knows the quirks of your new boat to hold your hand the first time out. Leave the distractions at home (wife, kids, fishing stuff) and just go learn the boat.

Be patient, go slow and have some fun.

My first new to me boat trip was an experience as the prior owner didn't winterize the engine and I had to run it back to the dock with the oil fill cap off so the steam from the cracked block had somewhere to go.
