New member with a question

Hello all. I would like to start out by saying that I consider it to be a privilege to be in a forum with some of the smartest people ever. I have looked through a lot of the mods and I am amazed at the ideas that I have seen.
I have a 1433 aluminum flat bottom. On my registration card it says its a 1964 Cherokee. I have researched it and I have only found one pic that looks like mine and the owner was trying to find out something about it as well. If anyone has any history or info I'd love to hear it.
OK my question is, the drain is in the bottom of the boat instead of the bottom of the transom. The hole has threads in it and a 3/4 pipe nipple will screw into it perfectly. I've tried the standard boat plug and it leaks a little around it. I've tried a 3/4 pipe plug with sealant on it and it leaked around that as well. Does anyone know of a plug that is for a boat that would work? I am going to attempt to attach a pic of the drain hole. I hope it works.
I am going to do some mods to the boat and I will post pics of my progress which will probably be slow but want to get all the leaks fixed first and this one is the biggest one. Plus I will be fishing out of it as well.
Any suggestions and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

That is a self bailing drain. If you go on Iboats there are several others looking for a plug for that style drain. I'm not sure a there is a good solution. Some have completely sealed it up and installed a new style drain and plug in the transom.

Yeah I saw another post on here that referred someone to iboats and I went there myself and saw something that might work. Thanks for your reply.

Welcome to site! I was curious as well and googled around alittle. I didn't find anything related to 1964 Cherokee but I found a site that has 2 piece brass plugs that might work. You need to find a picture of that drain fitting with plug or ask local boat dealer/mechanic. They may sell you something but atleast you'll know. LOL

Like lckstckn2smknbrls suggested, you might want to seal and place a new plug in transom. Depends on your pain tolerance.

Thanks panfried. I checked out the link and I agree that might just be my fix. I did consider putting a new drain in the transom but wasn't sure what kind of trouble that would be plus I don't have any way of doing the welding myself. I greatly appreciate your time and help.

I went to homedepot and got a pipe pull thing there it works good and only like 2 bucks

I went to Lowes yesterday and looked for one of those drain plugs and the smallest they had was a 2" but I did pick up some JB water weld and after looking closer at my drain I think I know why its leaking.
I stopped at Advance today and picked up some Air Craft stripper. Hopefully I'll have some new pics this evening.

Well, didn't get to do any work on my boat today cause the air craft stripper says to use in temps from 65° to 90° and it only got up to 30° here today but tomorrow its supposed to be in the mid 40's, so I may try to work on a small area and see how it goes.

Got some work done on my boat today and plan on doing more tomorrow. I'll take some pics tomorrow. This boat has had a hard life, it has been beat to pieces, its cleaning up nice though. A lot of elbow grease and a lot more to go.

Well I finally got all the sanding and stripping done. WHEW!!!!! Here are some pics of the stripped down version.
I bought two cans of self etching primer and got that on but two cans didn't go very far so I'll have to get more to finish.

Well I finally caught some breaks in the rain and got to finish priming my boat. Here are some pics of the primer coat completed.

And I also got a chance to get it painted before the rain started again today. Here are pics of the completed paint job. I am quite happy with the outcome. I really appreciate all of yall's help and suggestions. I've still got a long way to go but at least I will be able to fish out of it now. I was beginning to think I wasn't going to get to with all this rain.
