New motor gear oil?

So I ordered a 9.9hp motor. I found instructional videos for setting up the same motor (smaller hp though) and read through the manual multiple times. As far as I can tell they only say to add engine oil, are motors supposed to come with gear oil already in them?

If its a 4S like my 2hp Honda, i had to add engine oil as it could not be shipped with oil in it. It did have lower unit oil in it but it won't hurt to double check.

I bought a new 9.8 Tohatsu fom outboardsonline. It came with gear oil in the lower unit and no oil in the engine.

Just check to be safe - open the top plug and use a straw or something to stick in there - if it comes out with oil you are good to go
