Found a NMEA 2000 Wifi Gateway at a bin store for $.50

I have to get a T connector to add it to my NMEA backbone.

If it works, it has an internal web site built in that displays various engine and navigation information.

Will give it a try when the T connector comes in.

More to come.

Didn't need the T, just used the connection for my fish finder.

Got the wifi to connect, updated firm ware, but didn't get engine hours with key on.

Looks like a lot more settings to get right.

I'd be interested to know if there are any perceived delays inserting the wifi vs gauges on the FF. I have a display connected to a NMEA2K network and get very good response on tach and trim adjustment. In some ways it would be nice to have "bigger" gauges on an ipad or such.

Got the NMEA server settings done and now getting some engine data.

I will set up and run the engine tomorrow and see how it works.

Won't be able to do a side by side with Garmin Echo map until my T adapter comes in.

Do you have a digital compass on your NMEA network or using phone/display device? Is the boost for the optional water pressure sensor?

No, I do not have a digital compass installed. Time and battery didn't display. When I get the T adapter, hoping my Garmin Echo map puts out nmea traffic like time, GPS, depth, heading, battery, and not sure if it has a compass.

Pretty sure when engine starts, I will get alternator output. Will try later.

Really not sure about boost, there are a lot of engine parameters that can be displayed, but my 20hp, doesn’t have sensors, like tilt, oil pressure, and Reverse.

Just playing right now, but it seems pretty cool.
 
Our G3/Yamaha only came with a gas gauge and not very accurate at that. Didn’t need a gateway from engine, only to wire up a connector. I went with a standalone display SIMRAD IS35, because my old HB needed an expensive gateway and it was a first generation NMEA2K and not supported anymore. It is nice having a separate screen vs toggling the FF one. It is a mix of analog looking gauges and digital data. I like it much better than the Vessel View Mobile on our Merc, which is all digital.

It is nice having all the data without buying and hooking up allot of analog gauges. I do have some quirks to work out with SIMRAD support. While gal/hour works, the fuel remaining does not. They told me there are a couple of Yamaha parameters that need to be remapped. At the start of each day, I get a GPS error after about 10 minutes. It assumes a GPS is attached to network, and a default needs to be changed somewhere. I just got to get thru to CS when I’m in the boat.
 
Ran the boat this afternoon. Got rpm, fuel flow, gear position, engine temp and engine hours.

I was expecting alternator voltage after start, but didn't get it. Will have to check Suzuki engine gateway data to see if it sends the data or if it is just a voltage reading from fish finder.

When T adapter comes in, I will be able to determine if Echo map outputs some additional data like heading, time, location, and voltage.

Alternator voltage is output by both the Merc and Yamaha. I did a quick search, and the table I found for Suzuki indicated it does output it. The table went from 40 hp and up though. If your 20hp has a magneto charging system, maybe not.

I suspect that you will have config screens to turn on what data points you want the FF to output.

Yes, mine sends a alternator data, just verified with fish finder.

Echo map, per the manual, outputs most of the nmea data, I think that is needed for the web guages to be useful as an alternative display.

So far the only data I am not displaying is alternator and fuel remaining. Pretty sure it is a setting for the wifi router. Emailed yacht devices, for their solution.

For fuel remaining, your gas tank size has to be configured and then reset whenever you fill up. Now, even though I have it configured, that is not working on the Yamaha. Simrad says a parameter needs to be changed for Yamaha. It wouldn’t surprise me if Suzuki does as well.

It works on my Echo map. I use a 3 gallon tank, so it's always close. It shows .9 gals remaining from my last trip. Pretty sure it's closer to .5 gals.

On the wifi guages, I have not found a spot to enter the current fuel status, so remaining/used fuel will be an issue.

But for the wifi guages, it's designed for yachts, with numerous batteries, numerous everything, so it's a way overkill for my boat.
