Hi everyone,

First post here, although I've been on the site plenty in the past. I just purchased a 1448 Grizzly Tracker and starting out I plan on getting a trolling motor for my primary power needs and an outboard later.

My question is this: If only using one trolling motor on the boat, would you recommend a transom mounted motor or a bow mount? I really like the idea of the bow mount as it pulls the boat better and I could go with the Minn Kota PowerDrive, but I hear it has a bad foot pedal. From what I can see, the only pro of a transom mounted motor is that it mounts on the transom and is easier to control. I really appreciate all your thoughts and advice.

Thanks,

a used outboard would be cheaper than a bow mount TM. if your planning on getting an outboard in a week or two get a bow mount. if your waiting til next season get a transom mount

It depends on your style of fishing. I fish anchored so I use a transom mounted trolling motor to move from spot to spot. If you want to constantly move while casting, a bow mount will give you much better control of your boat.

Gas motor and foot controlled bow mounted trolling motor is a nice setup. I love mine. I have an old Powerdrive and yes, the pedal is a little bit rough, but it works. Great motors. Get a really good battery, best you can afford.
