Hello all,

I am a long time reader but recently joined member. I am looking for a jon boat that I want to modify. I do not want to do anything fancy...just add ped. seats, solid floors, carpet, and a built in cooler. I have a question concerning whether it would be possible to do this with a jon boat because of my weight. I weigh in at 220 and my fishing buddy weighs about 250. A 1236 Alumacraft that we rent at the local lake holds us with no problem and seems like it would hold the weight well but I was wondering if there are any specifics that I need to be aware of? This is my first boat and like I said, only want to do enough to it that I can sit in it for a fishing trip without going numb like I do from the built-in benches. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Aboard! 8)

With the combined weight you mentioned, I'd check the capacity of any boat you're looking at. The 1236 you're using will suffice, but limits what you can do, even though you're talking about minimal mods/upgrades to a purchased one. You need to consider the total weight of persons onboard, gear, battery(s), accessories, and what type of water you'll use it on. Are you wanting a trailerable boat, or something to load into a pickup bed?

Thank you. I will let you know what I find...I am excited about finding one and doing the little bit of work that I want to on it.
