First post here, hope you all can help.

I have a 14' jon made by Meyers in Adrian MI. I bought it used several years ago, and its lead a pretty rough life. I let a family member borrow it 3 years ago and they took it off the trailer on land, then tried to winch it back up. Doing this left 2 large dents on the bow, one on each side from the bunks, right on the edge of the boat. This boat also was my duck boat for a few years, where it was pulled over top of rocky dikes constantly throughout the fall. Doing that left a few large dents on the bottom.

When I moved to North Carolina, the boat saw a bit more rougher water than what I was used to in Michigan. Whenever I hit a wave or wake from another boat, the front of the bow, and the bottom where I pounded out the dents will pop in and out with the wave action. Not only is it annoying, but it also caused the boat to pop two rivets in the bow where the dents are. Im trying to fix it up as best I can. The dents are pounded out, and I replaced the rivets.

To prevent the hull from flexing and popping more rivets, I was going to brace the bottom with wood, then lay a floor overtop of it. I was hoping that maybe someone has done this before and knew if this was the best way to go about this, or if there was something better I could do. Any advice is welcome.
Thanks,
Adam

Welcome! :D

To truly stop the flexing, you'll have to permanently attach more metal (I wouldn't use wood) and the only way to do this without punching holes in your boat is to have some aluminum plate welded over the affected areas.

If you prep the area really well and get/cut the patches yourself .... a fab shop won't charge more than $40 per spot to do the welding. Make sure they do some button welds as well as welding around the edges.

Let us know what you decide to do .... and post some pics
