Looking to add a rear casting deck to my Tracker 1648. Wanted to see what you guys thought was the best way to go about it? I have plenty of .125" aluminum sheet and angle left over from my previous mod work. Thinking of running a piano hinge the entire length of my rear bench with angle along the transom, gunwales and one piece down the middle from bench to transom for support. I plan to cut my sheet dead center from bench to transom to create 2 "pieces" that will lift up towards the bow independently. This won't be a huge deck by anymeans, but will give the guy fishing off the rear bench pedestal seat some more leg room. I plan to install my sheet with rivets so I can easily remove my decking in the fall once waterfowl season starts back up. What say you guys? Here are a few pictures to give you all an idea of what I'm working with. Not the best pictures, but all I've got at the moment. Will snap a few more the next time I have the cover off the boat. Thanks for any suggestions!!

Plan to clean up my control cable and stick steer cable by running them up through the corner transom braces, which should keep them out of the way of the decking.

Terp, somewhere on here is a video of my boat that may give you some ideas. It was perfect for hunting as it gave a perfect place for the stove. Ill get some pics up later and find that video if you haven't yet. I'm on crapatalk so its a bit difficult

Thanks. I like what you did there. I don't have the "pods" on the gunwales of my bilge like yours. I'd have to rivet my angle on the gunwales to support my sheet. I like the single piece though, might change my mind from having 2 pieces that open/close independently and going with just a single one. What kind of hinge did you use?

Nice. Is that just a single piece of aluminum sheet you hinged to your rear bench? What kind of kinge did you use? I like how much your rear deck cleans up the motor cables. I'm thinking I'll want to remove my back deck during hunting season. We use the bilge area to store extra gas (when needed) mojo stakes, etc. During hunting season space is limited on the boat so I'd hate to loss any by keeping the back deck on.

Just make sure to design it so it doesn't conflict with the engine, gussets or cables.

The link I just looked at doesn't have an outboard, so that wouldn't work in your application.

I'm about to do the same thing as you, and I'm going with three hatches across the back, due to how it's broken up underneath.

Best wishes.

I will start by saying that I did have to remove my rear bench in order to get the storage I wanted. It was replaced by 2x4's attached to both sides of the boat to make up any torsional rigidity lost removing the bench. It is all a single piece of 1/2" Sandeply with 4 coats of spar, 2 coats of paint, and 2 coats of deck restore for traction. The hinges are stainless T hinges (picture below). I hear you about needing the room. I have plenty of storage under my deck. Not sure about making it removable, mine is permanent. We hunted 3 guys out of it, and had plenty of room for us all to be comfortable.

The layout. The cinderblocks were there to hold down the PVC strips as the 5200 dried. This gave me a place to screw my gas tank hold downs into, and allowed water to move freely underneath easing cleanout.

Let me know if you want any other pictures.
