Reconditioning reels

After seeing how many people are upset with the current market on cheap reels. I decided to start fixing old reels because I love tinkering.
Here's my first ones.


This is a Penn delmar 285m


This one is a Zebco 777.

I have a Penn Del Mar as well except mine has a green handle. I'm still getting used to it but it feels solid for it's age. (30 years give or take). You make a good point about things from yesteryear being of higher quality.

if you like tinkering with old reels, I do too most of the ones I fish are pretty old. Check out alantani.com tons and tons of great info on tons of reels. Warning buying and fixing up old reels can become addictive I have more reels than I care to admit lol

Sweet. I've been doing the same. Just finished restoring two I got from my wifes grandpa. A Penn 109 and Penn Long Beach. FYI "Iron out" works great to remove corrosion and rust on metal parts. Just let them soak overnight.
