So I have tossed the treated plywood floor I just installed last week and am about ready to start installing an all aluminum floor. I have a potentially dumb question about rivets. If I use rivets to mount the floor to the tubing, or the angle to the ribs, won't it cause high spots when installing the sheet over the rivets or the carpet over the sheet?

Thanks in advance for your help. This forum is an amazing place for information.

I installed a aluminum floor into my 16 foot Alweld. I used rivnuts so I can remove it if I want. What size boat are you dealing with?

The boat is a 1652 xPress. It already has good ribs. I plan on adding some cross bars for stiffness and then installing 1/8" sheet for the floor. The rivet overload is going to be on the front deck extension. I am going to have a flipping deck that will be approximately 60" across by 110" bow to stern. I have a friend that was going to help with welding but his timeline and mine don't match up so I am considering going the rivet route.

Does the floor and/or decking 'float' on the rivet heads and/or can you feel the rivets under the carpet?

Thanks for your help.

Yes,if you put carpet over a rivet you will be able to see or feel it. Have you looked at some of the bed liner like paint material that can be rolled on? I'm installing an aluminum floor in a tracker, I used truss head screws to screw it down and I'm for sure not going to put carpet over it, I'm going to use the bedliner type stuff on it. If you could use screws instead of pop rivets you could countersink the heads so they will be flush with the floor.
