Searching for a Starcraft transom cap to replace a broken one on a 1974 12ft Seafarer. Suggestions appreciated….
Finding one will be like looking for a needle in a haystack so making one is your only real option. If you just need something that works, getting a new one fabricated like the video shows. If your looking for an original duplicate, then find a small foundry that does small production runs. They can use the old cap, make repairs with epoxy just to use it to make a mold. A simple mold can be made to cast new ones. Not gonna be cheap but it is doable. Lets face it....small 12 rowboats are not collectors items so how much do you want to put into it ?? There are such things as marine junk yards, just mabey you might get lucky, but odds are not in your favor. How bad do you want it replaced ??Searching for a Starcraft transom cap to replace a broken one on a 1974 12ft Seafarer. Suggestions appreciated….
This might help...
I’m not looking for perfection or exact original, but I’d like for both sides to match and look decent. I think I’m going to see if my local fab shop can weld repair the cracked piece, now that I’ve learned that cast aluminum is weldable… if that doesn’t work, I found a nice set of aftermarket generic cast aluminum transom caps w/ cast aluminum handles. I want both sides to match, but I’d take a repaired original over dropping $200 on the aftermarket set, if it works… I’ll follow up with whatever solution I end up doing… Thank you!Finding one will be like looking for a needle in a haystack so making one is your only real option. If I can’t repair the broken piece, this is what I’m looking to order:I bought a pair on Ebay, and they looked good, but I was disappointed that they were made of plastic. First time you hit a dock, they are going to break. Still, they look good.
You might want to try Greatlakesskipper.com They might have what you need.
Well, it took me a while, but I finally got my repaired transom cap back from the fab shop - I’m really happy with it, and appreciate all the suggestions. $30 bucks, and a bit of a wait, and I’m back in action with the original part!Searching for a Starcraft transom cap to replace a broken one on a 1974 12ft Seafarer.
