Here are a few shots from my venture today. Took exactly 51 pics, but only liked a few. This is another abandoned farm, but had a sturdy gate chained shut and a large No Trespassing Sign on it, so I shot from across the road and the gravel drive.

Taken from across the road:

After that, I headed to city park. Took a few there, and shot this stump through the passenger side door (window up) before leaving. The stump was about 3' from the truck:

(Due to it being so bright outside, all shots were taken with a rotating polarizing filter on the 55-200 lense)

Man you take some of the best pixs. i have seen.
Old thermometer on side of house:

If it is that hot their is no wander you haven't posted anything in contest :D :D

Thanks for the comments. No not that hot yesterday, the thermometer is stuck I think. No pics yet of bad weather, but there's still 7-8 days left until the deadline, and I'm sure it'll get bad before then (hopefully not too bad). This is the north western part pf the state, and it changes regularly.

If I don't have any for this month's contest, I'll try to make the next one.

Man I NEEDTO LEARN how to read...................
For some reason i was thanking it ended Monday #-o #-o

Glad i saved one more slot/ now if i can get it..

Ok Waterwings
I have a few ?'s for you if you would be so kind to help.

1)a/f or m/f ?

2)favorite ISO to use? F /setting ?

3) Lighting is always perfect light meter or Edit ?

4) How are you adding signature that blends in ? that is cool..........

5) Do you save your pixs. as just j peg or j peg and raw? The reason i ask is i know someone that says raw is the best way to edit them as you can Edit ISO and F setting never tried it.

I am just a novice looking to learn.I know that no one wants to let their secrets out ,but just asking?????

Thanks

Just a rookie here also Mike, as I've only had this camera since Christmas, but learning slowly as I go, lol. I've deleted a lot of shots, but that's okay when shooting digital.....no expensive film wasted.

1) Most of the time (99.9%) I'm in auto focus.
2) Still working on the ISO, but am trying it at 200. Some of the shots I took at city park Saturday were auto- etering at 1000 ISO, so had to change that. The f stop I'm still working on also, but have gone and set it low in an attempt to get the background to blur. It's a lot easier if using a camera that has a manual f-ring, which this D3000 doesn't. Have to go into the programs and set it manually.
3) I pretty much leave the camera in Auto White Balance and D-Lighting on, the D-Lighting will give the pics some/a lot of grain in higher ISO's. From what I understand and read, D-Lighting is good on sunny days to add some light to the shadows. I do quite a bit of post-processing, mainly using brightness/contrast, and have recently started messing with the Curves for color/lighting changes. I also use the Unsharpen Mask feature quite a bit. It's in the Filters (Enhance section) in Gimp. Oh, and I always click on the "preview" mode so that I can go the UnDo feature in the Edit menu and get rid of anything I've done and return to the original shot.
4) The signature, which still gives me fits occasionally is done using the Text button in Gimp. Select the font, size, and then type your name, etc. Then I drag it into the photo where I want it and save.
5) From what I understand, shooting in RAW (NEF for Nikon) is the best method for post-processing, but uses a lot of bytes on the memory card. When I went to take the shots Saturday I had the camera set in RAW (NEF), but changed it once I got out there. I shoot everything in Jpeg. My memory card is 2gb, and am going to get a 4gb or probably an 8gb possibly. What I should do is get another battery, but waiting for now as they're around $58 from Nikon. I don't plan on using and off-brand battery in the camera.

Also, I've joined two photo sites, and they have lots of info on them: https://www.digi-darkroom.com (based in the UK), and https://www.photozo.com (members have 10gb of storage there for a personal gallery & posting). Using Photobucket as on-line storage also, but really need to get an external hard-drive for backup. Right now everything is on my computer. Hope my explanations above helped, but still learning myself.

Thanks for your reply

I don't know much . But do you have a Sam's club around ? If so you can get a 16 g card for around 40.00 class 6 (The higher the class the faster it process info) Google it.That helps when shooting fps.
Your info was great help!

Glad to assist with the basic info I know :) . The next time I venture to Louisville to visit family I'll checkout the Sam's there for the larger capacity card. Not much here at our local Walmart or KMart, but always on the look. Thanks for the info :)

Good find on the card - I'll have to pick one up too.

Will

I'll justify the new card purchase cost to my wife because at the end of April we're going to Florida for my oldest son's weddding. Will have to take lots of pics of that.................plus lighthouses, boats, etc, etc :)

If you go to get one of the cards make sure you look at class as class 4 and class 6 are together at least here.

I had to ask a lady to read it for me as i don't see so well.Small print.

And yes i need spare battery to and i am not going to use anything other than Nikon on this camera.
Be it battery or lenses at this point in time.

But that is alot of ho ho's.LOL
MIKE

Thanks for the tip. I pulled the card (currently a 2gb, PNY brand) out of my camera just now to see what it says on it. All I see are some serial numbers, and made in Japan. Would the Class 4 or 6 be written on the card packaging maybe?

OK did fast google on this and you should get the just of it.

Just Google for more info.

Hope this link helps.
