I have a little issue i hope i can get some help on.I was checking the back of my jon boat when i noticed a small hole right at or a bit above the waterline on the transom. If i had to guess the hole will be in the water less then half the time. It's about the size of a #8 screw head, not to big. This is what i was going to do to seal it.I was going to fill the tiny hole and around it a bit with fast cure 5200 and then just put a SS number 8 or 10 screw in it like an extra rivet.A quick permanent fix i think????????Is this the right way to do it?I can't see how it will ever leak doing it that way but i would like to know if that is the right or wrong way to do it????

Now i only plan on keeping this boat for prob a few yrs at the very most, maybe less.

If someone has a better quick idea please let me know, thanks.I added a few pics to see what i'm working with.

I don't have enough experience with 5200 to know whether you could consider this a permanent fix or not, but if you use a stainless pan head screw and put some 5200 around the shank where it meets the head before you tighten it all the way down, it should seal well enough that it would be a long term fix at the very least.

If yours is like mine, there's a big, foam block, covered with aluminum on the inside. I hate those things! Now, I'm afraid I know just enough to give someone bad advice about fixing things so I'm just curious. What made the hole? Did some one shoot your boat? Is there another hole or dent on the front of your back seat? THAT would be alittle scary!
When the warrenty is over there will be a recessed rod and cup holder in each of mine.

Yeah, my only concern is what made the hole. Tampa Florida lettering and what looks like white fuzz at the hole has me leaning towards salt water corrosion from the inside.

I think at the least I'd be sanding off the paint and making sure you don't have any other surprises getting ready to pop through.

Yeah the boat has some corrosion, not to bad.I did water test today on it.Propped the boat up about a foot and filled it with near 1/4 to 1/2 of water, the boat is i might say 100% water tight, suprisingly.I looked at the bottom of the bo9at and it's got some wear but overall it's in great shape for a almost 11yr old boat.I'm going to keep it along with the trailer for say a yr or 2 so it will serve it's purpose,I'm going to sell the boat and trailer either next yr or the yr after, depends on money but i'm going to buy a new g3 boat, either a 1442 or i'm going with a 1442 or 1542 alumacraft. This boat i got for a deal.I bought a boat, motor and trailer deal for $1200 a yr ago but i just unloaded close to $500 in the trailer, sold the 1991 8hp nissan that was on it for $450.I guess if i wanted i could sand the bottom and repaint if i want but this is a good boat for what i need.I'm just going to put a floor in it and go,nothing special.I will sell the boat and trailer for $1000obo.The boat brand new is $1375 for a 1436 heavyweight, not the lake jon.Cresliner and lowe are the same boats. So you can get a completely rebuilt trailer and nice boat for less then the boat alone,i believe thats extremely fair.

Is there a similar hole on the other side? Or a rivet? Can you tell how the transom wood is mounted? How about a picture of the whole transom.

5200 is permanent. Between that and a #10 or #12 you should be water tight. That's how I always mount transducers and the like. Pretty accepted method for sealing transoms.

No it's just a weird hole out of the blew.I think it may be a corrosion hole.Iv'e decided to just put a nice sand on the bottom and and prime it with self etching primer and a nice coat of rustoleum paint. The bottom is a bit rough but it's 100% water tight suprisingly.I filled it up with a bit less then halfway with water and to my suprise it's extremely water tight.Like said i'm not going to keep it long but when i sell it i don't want it to be junk either.I have been sold alot of junk and it's very frustrating when someone tells you it's in great shape and then you go on the water and something fails or leaks because they lied.

The transom is solid as a rock from what i can feel and see.It was just not properly washed down with freshwater all the time you can tell.If you take care of a jon boat and after salt use just wash it down along with the trailer and motor you will never have any issues..
