When I was at Cabela's the other day they has this big plastic board, I guess the best way to describe it is that it looked like a cutting board. It was like 12" long and maybe 6" wide. All it said was that it was for mounting the tranducer. I saw somewhere about someone using one of those plastic type cutting boards and making their own.

So this question is why do you use one of these.

You use them to avoid drilling holes in your transom below the water line. Plus they can allow you to mount multiple transducers/electronic things.

you use one to avoid what happened to me today. I even have one and talked myself out of using it because mounting it looked too easy to really screw up....but even following the directions perfectly it didn't line up right and I had to drill two more holes in my hull to make it line up right....so with a board, I could have just drilled two more screw holes without worrying about holes through the transom.
