I am a brand new member and I wanted to try an tap some of the knowledge here for thoughts and suggestions. I have a line on a 1958 Starcraft Speed Queen, and I was thinking of putting a wooden from and rear deck on it. I am wondering if the boat would be too narrow or shallow for this really work, or if someone has any other suggestions.

Below is the photo of the boat and an image of a boat which gave me the inspiration.

This is similar to what I was thinking, without the casting platform....

HI dj. Cool boat. However, converting the current runabout you have into the flats skiff you want will be more time and effort than it's worth. Plus, it would ruin the super cool look and layout of the runabout itself. Instead, I would recommend you get a different empty, semi-V hull without all of the internal components. It will be much less work and you'll be able to preserve the runabout for someone who want to restore it to its former glory. I actually took an old Arkansas Traveler hull and converted it to a flats tiller skiff myself and it worked great. I can sit/stand using my grab bar and tiller extender and fish from the forward casting deck without issue.

Why not leave all the original aluminum decking in place and paint it to look like wood?
