Hi All,

Brand new to the forum here and looking forward to gleaning a little wisdom from members.
My issue is that intermittently my 03 30HP 4 stroke Yamaha starter will continue to turn after releasing the key switch. I have to break power from the battery to make it stop. Next time it may or may not do it but continues to be an issue. I have recently done a full redo on my 14' Lowe Jon but didn't mess around with the engine wiring. I don't think anything I did is related but whata I know.
Any thoughts out there as to a possible cause ? Haven't put the boat in the water this year but I'm almost finished with it and ready to get it in the water.
Only electrical work on the engine was replacing a bad solenoid switch last season.
Thanks for any advise.

Hate to say it but it sounds like the solinoid is sticking or your key switch is. Unhook the solinoid and put a multi meter or a test lite on the signal wire ( it should be the small wire) and turn the key switch to start. you should either see some voltage or a lite come on depending on what tester you have. When you let go of the key it should go away/lite go out. if it doesnt go out right away replace the ignition switch. If it does take the solinoid back to where you got it and see if they will give you another one.

Thought it could be but being the mechanic I ain't I'll have a friend try out your suggestion. Are replacement ignition switches very expensive?
Thanks for your previous reply.

More than likely it is the solenoid. Key switches are not real expensive. Test the solenoid as stated above and that will tell you what you need to know.
