Hi everyone,

I love kayak fishing and try to get out on the water whenever I can and now I’ve been looking for a trolling motor but I’m on a budget, so I’m hoping to find something affordable that still offers good functionality for longer fishing tours.

While browsing for gear, I found some helpful options on aguapulse, but I’d like to hear from anyone who has experience with budget-friendly trolling motors. Any recommendations for something reliable that won’t break the bank?

I ran an Ocean Kayak with a factory installed trolling motor for several years. It has a Minnkota 50 with the digital “maximiser” speed control. It push’s the yak along quite well but, you could also sneak around slowly and work the banks. It’s really

Anyway 50 ft/motor is plenty. It’s best to go with a digital speed control to conserve current consumption so you can minimize the battery size.

I suggest picking up a used trolling motor and then adapting it to your yak. You will likely need to add a rudder to the yak if it doesn’t already have one.

My suggestion to get a nice Trolling motor for a good deal is monitor local Facebook Marketplace, especially in the spring and summer. A lot of people get new boats and immediately upgrade the trolling motor from the barely powerful enough one they put on the boat standard to something with more power and/or more bells and whistles. I sold the one that came on mine for about $75 under the best SALE PRICE I could find for it at BPS when it went on sale. Mine had never been on the water and the guys was thrilled. Agree with Still Afloat, you definitely want something digital as it makes the battery last so much longer, especially for a Kayak and it's limited space.
