Hey I am new to tinboats but hope someone can give advice. I have a 1993 Misty River 16' aluminum boat with a new 30 hp Evinrude etec. I just replaced the old 83 Johnson 35 seahorse. My concern is when trailering my boat I will not be able to remove the etec as it is bolted onto the transom, unlike the old Johnson which I would unclamp and lay on the wooden floor of the boat when trailering. I always wondered if going over potholes and bumps with the motor mounted on the transom would cause problems, so I always used to remove the motor from the transom when trailering just for peace of mind.
The 16' Misty river is a great boat, very well built and never leaked a drop of water since I bought it in 94. The transom appears to be in good shape, the id plate says the boat is rated for 40 hp. But now I'm worried that when I hit the road for a fishing trip and I'm traveling on some bumpy roads with the 175 pound Evinrude bolted to the transom and bouncing around is there any concern that structural damage to my transom is possible? This is something I've wondered about for a long time and I would love to hear some advice from others. Thanks.
