Is there a specific kind or wood to use when replacing the transom? It is starting to splinter and I wanna put a new piece. Pine, hardwood, treated, etc. I am currently only putting a trolling motor on the wood. If that matters.

What kind of trolling motor, electric or gas (not that it matters).

The variety of wood to use on the transom will elicit as many opinions as there are types of wood.

All in all it does not really matter as long as the wood is strong enough for the application. Of course it is also most peoples goal to have some sort of longevity of repair as well so said wood receives some type of sealing treatment.

I used a chunk of oak plywood and sealed it with polyurethane spar varnish. Of course this may not be the "right" way to accomplish this task and it may not last 200 years, but then again why would I care, it works.

Spit out your thoughts on materials and see how the opinions fly. :LOL2: :LOL2: :LOL2:
