I have a question regarding trolling motor angle. Some trolling motors are mounted so that none of the components extend past the edges of the boat, some have the mount and motor head, extending past the boat. I'm sure that's all personal preference. My question is, does it matter where the head falls? I have a mod v hull with a minn kota maxxum. The bracket mount that is in the boat is off to one side of the tip of the v when looking down at it. seep pic. I want to move it off the fabricated wood stand the prior owner has there, to free up room in the front deck. I would ultimately like to have it running parallel with the length of the boat. I was wondering if there is any issue with the head being off to one side of the boat, other than the steering compensation that I would have to do when operating.

I have mine located where you want yours to go. I was getting used to a new outboard, throttled up instead of down and ran the head into the dock. After repeated attempts to glue it I got a new one. When I put the new one on I reversed the head so the larger part is within the sides of the boat. Now I just have to remember which way is forward.

It's funny that in the picture,it's where it is.
Theres a place for it already,it will work fine for what your thinking.

Yeah, i thought it would be fine there, but I don't have enough deck space as it is up there, and I couldn't understand why the previous owner put it that way. But I think I 'll just move it then. I'm trying to get a power drive or terrova though, this maxxum is too big for my boat.

you can put it anywhere and at any angle you want to.. I've done mine 10 different ways before I got the setup that was right for me.

I put mine about a foot from the left side of the bow (facing the bow), so that I can put 4 rods down on the deck... I have it running parallel to the length of the boat with no angles. It's not in the center of the boat, and it still runs just fine.

On another boat, I had it all the way over the the left side of the bow running parallel with the length and it worked fine too.

I have my fold out bracketed hand operated trolling motor mounted on the left side. I have found out I am more stable getting in on that side than I am one the other side. I walk between the seat and my troll motor. When I get out, I get out on the opposite side. Thats the most stable way for me. I am working now on my G3, 1548. I mount mine where the shaft is about one inch away from the bow. I fold out the bracket and hold it and mark the holes and mount. Has always worked for me.
Before I start doing anything on a boat, I go to paint in Microsoft and draw up floor plans to see what I want to do. Cuts down on mistakes and $$$$$$$$.
Two plans are are for different floor plans I like. I have gone with with one without the long rod locker on the left side.
One plan is for the troll motor
Will show pics later. See floor plans below, thanx.

I just got a new trolling motor myself and it said to mount it as close as possible to the "center line" of the boat. The mount on my boat is just off to the left and it works fine.
