Trolling motor repair?

Newbie question....can you rebuild a trolling motor and is it worth it?

Got a free trolling motor that "worked"...but, just not for me. Its an older minnkota, 28# thrust I think...but I get nothing. Trying to build a boat with no cash out of my pocket, free boat and trailer, I'm trading an chainsaw for an outboard, heck I even got free plywood out of helping some friends remodel their basement

Any tricks that you guys know or should I dump it on ebay for parts?
