Want to add steps or pods to your boat's stern?

I didn't know that these things existed as add-ons. Three sizes fit all manner of tin boats. Apparently, they can be either bolted on or welded on. Cost prior to welding fees is around $300.00. Not bad.

I've got a small tin.....12/36 with a 4-stroke so it stern heavy. I bet this would help, kinda pricey for my cheap boat. But it would probably make it a lot more stable.

If you read the reviews I think one of the owners had a 12 foot boat. His story was a good one.

I read the reviews, one person had a 12/36. Had to do a bit of modifying, but they said it worked great. It's cheaper than a new boat.

Yea. I think he had to modify his because of a severe angle on his gunnels.

I just bought a new 1652vbw G3 hull yesterday. If I need such a device, at least I know they are available.

Rich mite just go to bevertail directly https://explorebeavertail.com/flotationpods.html,, some good info on how they will fit up to your boat https://explorebeavertail.com/instructions/recommendedpodsizing.pdf,,,,, I also have a G3 vbw a 1548,,,..own a sheet metal/weld fab shop going to be building my own useing their info to get started,,, will build cardboard mock ups and tape them to the boat for the best fit and to get max size for max flotation,,,,, going by their min. of 16'' between pods would think the large one will work on your boat, 52''-16''=36''÷2=18'', bottom of large pod is 17'' giving you 18'' between pods,,, if it were me I would make up some mock ups going by their drawings on their site to check the fit for engine clearance

Rich what engine are you putting on your boat? put 25 etec on mite w/power trim and electric start, think it weighs in at 180lbs and with battery fuel tank and my 260lb a$$ sitting on the rear along with a 15'' transom think n I'm going to put them on,,,,just not sure about welding them on with the factory foam filled pods behind where they get welded up,, mite think of removing the foam and making storage out of the factory pods seeing the new pods would replace the factory pods flotation

Well, I presently own a 1648 Lowe side console. I wanted to match it's hull. I am moving my 1996 tilt/trim 50 hp Johnson 2 cycle over. I am also having the console; trolling motor; seats etc. moved.

You mention "factory pods"??. Nothing protrudes from the stern of my boat.

Turns out the G3 1652 vbw is somewhat larger than its predecessor the 1648. That'll give me room. Not much storage in these things. I have a few modification ideas for that.

I have no idea if I'll need the pods or not. My big 250 lb butt won't help. Ha Ha. richg99

I figured out what you meant by "factory pods".

You know, whether those areas have foam in them of not....as long as they are SEALED, they provide the same amount of floatation, empty or filled with foam.

Assuming that you don't put heavy items in the storage, and assuming that your hatch covers are air-tight and closed....I don't think that you have anything to worry about. Certainly, adding the pods will give you a greater safety factor. I have a 20-inch transom, so I have an additional safety factor.

Flotation really only comes into play after your boat fills with water. Avoid that at all costs!

I've had my eye in these for several months. Believe it or not, they sell them on the Walmart website. They used to be cheaper than Cabelas, but it doesn't appear to be that way now.
