I know there are a few on this site that build rods. I am thinking of giving it a try and am looking for some starter tips. Can anyone recommend a good book(s) or web site(s) that goes through a step-by-step of the building process? Resources would be good too like where to get the components. Actually, any info would be good to give me some things to consider. Winter gives me a lot of time for indoor projects - can't spend all my time napping...

Best starter info book to have IMHO

https://www.amazon.com/Rod-Building-Guide-Spinning-Trolling/dp/1571882162/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1294234518&sr=8-14

Avoid the rod kits, you'd be happier on hand picking your custom rod to build IMHO

https://rodbuilding.org/list.php?2 seems like a descent place, I've used it 4 times for questions

I agree with FishingBuds, unless the starter kit is exactly what you want, and it won't be, do the research and buy the individual components. Also, your first one will likely not be perfect so don't go for that G.Loomis GLX blank until you get the basics ironed out.

Dale P. Clemmens is the author of some of the best rod building books. He covers the basics of everything you need to get into rod building. As for myself, I started by stripping and replacing the guides on a old rod that was laying around the garage. That was 30 years ago. I still am nervous when it comes to working on $100.00 rod blanks. Learn from your mistakes. We all make them. There are many who will give you good advice on this forum. Go For It, Dave

I agree with poolie, I just ordered a free catolog from mudhole, go to their site, they have starter kits.
