I have tried at least 6 different browsers and none operate correctly. The only one that comes close is Mozilla Firefox.

Haven't tried it, does it affect outlook express?

I wouldn't think so.I use yahoo web mail for email.Outlook Express can import viruses into a computer.

I just went through a mess with Hughes net.
I finally got to the second level Tech; an American in Florida.
He reccommende FireFox because of a lot of unexplianable issues with IE 7 and 8. Nothing he can put his finger on, but Firefox is loaded with shortcuts which seems to make it faster.

My ignorant opinion is that IE and FIreFox are both good. But if you have some other issues in your PC, you'll have some kind of trouble. It makes you want to break some latch key kid's fingers so badly he can only type with the tip of his tongue.

I got an aftermarket De-frag, and used it three times in a row. Each time it reported fewer defragged files. (Auslogics disk defrag) I think its a free download.
The MS Defrag didnt do that for me.
That worked for me. Really cut down on the 'whoodooos' in my PC.

My home computer has hughes net. Hows the updates going with firefox & such? will it be the same as how window updates work?

The De-frag and cleaning out some files has helped tremendiously. I did not download FireFox.

Some time ago I had FireFox. I also had about 1100 pieces of music on my PC.
MS sent me a down load notice for Media player 11.
I downloaded it and almost immediatly lost about half my music. Eventually all of it went by-by.
MS dont care. Even if you pay the $35 to speak to one of thier Rastenjani's, they cant help and wont help.
They say thier program works fine, its something in your PC.
So when I said I was using FireFox they said, "I cannot help you!"
So I'll just stick with IE. I dont want to lose all that music again. Some of it was Irreplaceable.

Windows update and some websites will not work with FireFox. If you uninstall IE8 it should revert your email back to IE7.

Often cleaning out the temporary internet files and other crap on your system can "fix" this issue. A good free toll to do this with is cCleaner. Check it out at.....

Yep thanks Doc, I've run the cleaning bit. Come to find out today I had a critical update missing for the IE8, I had it downloaded and it seems better :)

What do you think of the Microsoft update file you can get, seems like I've had problems with that in the past to, loaded a lot of junk not needed.

I have Automatic Updates turned off and set to notify me but do not DL or install. I generally wait about 2 weeks or so before I install any update but a critical security update and have yet to install SP3 for XP because I don't feel it is necessary. I never installed IE7 (didn't like it) and still have IE8 and the Update rollup for ActiveX Killbits sitting in the update que but am not ready to install them.

That said, I should add that I do online computer help at Woody's Lounge and am pretty familiar with computers and the Windows OS's and select the updates I install based on what I know about my system and the updates themselves. For most users the "conventional wisdom", if you will, is to turn on Automatic Update and pray. Since most folks don't tweak their computers too much or install crazy programs (except stupid games and silly emoticons that are loaded with spyware, adware and malware) this is a pretty safe strategy. But if you want to control your computer more yourself (it is a Personal computer after all) then turn off AU and check out The Lounge and https://www.askwoody.com.

Forgot to add the attachment last night.

Thanks Doc, I favorited the link and will consider you in the future if I have some PC questions. I have not downloaded IE8 on my home computer and plan not to now. But today my work computer acted up again(even after that last update IE8 download) so I hit a restore point on it, seemed OK afterward.

MS updates are often a case of the cure being worse than the disease. When I do install them I only take one or two at a time and then see how my system works afterwards. If I don't like what's happened, I just go back and remove the last 2 updates and start over one at a time until I find the problem patch or update and then chose not to install or be reminded of that update in the future.

BTW - the computer help in Woody's Lounge is always free and The Lounge is staffed by a volunteer group of some of the most knowledgable international computer users around.
If you don't know who Woody is, he's the guy who writes the Windows for Dummies books these days among other past works.
