I have a mid 2000’s Yamaha 8hp high thrust with the extended shaft, tiller steering, power trim, and electric start that I normally use on my sailboat. I am mostly finished restoring my 1949 Reynolds 12’ tinny I got out of an old neighbors backyard and took it out a couple times for “sea trials”. I plan on using the 8hp for fishing trips and the oarlocks as a shore dinghy when towed behind my sailboat. I have a fixed jack plate on order to raise the cavitation plate up to help get it on a plane, but I am a large guy and even with the battery and gas tank up in the bow it still rides like a Carolina squated truck. I would like to setup remote steering to move my body weight forward that leaves the tiller steering intact so it can still be disconnected and moved over to the sailboat. I found cheap 200ish dollar rotary steering kits online but they don’t include the cylinder that gets mounted on the motor base for the ram shaft. Anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions are appreciated.
